The rules vary a lot by region. We'll show you one common version that you can easily adapt to your group.

  1. Up to three rolls

The first player may roll up to three times, keeping dice aside in between. That sets the maximum number of rolls everyone else has.

  2. Compare values

From low to high: plain numbers, then the straight 1-2-3, then a Schock (two ones plus a third die), and at the very top Schock-out with three ones.

  3. Hand out chips

The worst roll of the round takes chips according to the best roll. A Schock 6, for example, means six chips.

  4. Halves and the loser

When the stack is empty, the first half ends. Whoever ends up with all the chips has lost and drinks.

Variations

  • Reading numbers: on plain rolls the one counts as 100, and the highest combination wins.
  • Schock-out ends the half immediately and is the strongest roll.
  • Rules vary a lot. Agree on the values and the number of chips together beforehand.
  • Without alcohol: the loser picks up a penalty point instead of drinking.

Tips for your round

  • Use your three rolls wisely, sometimes it pays to keep a good die aside.
  • As the first roller you set the pace. A win on just one roll puts everyone under pressure.
